JP Knight

Towage

Terminal and Harbour

JP Knight’s expertise in terminal and harbour towage has been developed through a pioneering application of the Z-peller azimuthing stern-drive (ASD) tug, a design that in 1981 started a revolution in Europe towards safer, faster ship handling. JP Knight has, however, been assisting ships since the beginning of the 20th Century and so is particularly well-placed to offer an innovative, informed and cost-effective towage service to customers.

Based in Scotland’s Cromarty Firth, JP Knight’s fleet assists tankers to the Nigg Oil Terminal, Cruise Ships into Invergordon, lays and maintains moorings, assists in rig moves and provides fire-fighting and pollution control to the port generally. The company provides logistical support to rigs moored in the Firth together with general ships’ agency work. Further afield, JP Knight’s tugs and crews have recently worked in Rotterdam, Europort and Antwerp as well as in many of Britain’s largest ports, including Immingham, Hull, Felixstowe, Medway, Southampton, Portsmouth, Leith, London, Greenock and the Clyde. That the terminals served range from Container berths to Gas and Bulk terminals demonstrates as much the flexibility of the Z-peller design as the adaptability and experience of the crew.
