Corporate Profile

The JP Knight Group

With a proud history dating back to 1892, the JP Knight Group has emerged as a major player in the towage, salvage and marine transportation business with a worldwide reputation. The company was originally formed as a London-based tug and barge operator and has since progressively evolved, adding a wide range of equipment and expertise to its present comprehensive portfolio. JP Knight has, however, remained a family company and is now in its fourth generation.

JP Knight has gained a formidable reputation for forward thinking and innovation. The company has been responsible for introducing a number of significant technical advances to the shiphandling market in Britain and Europe, while developing important links with equipment suppliers in the Far East. A deep-rooted and stringent approach to marine safety prevails throughout the Group, which is represented on a number of industry bodies in the UK, Europe and Internationally.

Tug and barge operation remains an important part of JP Knight’s activities and includes a long established Bauxite transportation service in Paranam, South America. Out of the Cromarty Firth in Scotland, JP Knight operates a modern fleet of tugs engaged in a wide variety of towage and support activities, shiphandling, coastal and deepsea contract towage, and offshore support operations.

With its present facilities, expertise, and experience JP Knight is able to offer fully integrated solutions to many towage, offshore and maritime construction projects. The Group’s head office is located in Chatham, Kent. There are two operation centres, one in the UK at Invergordon in Scotland and one in South America, at Paranam in Suriname.
